The Cayman Islands and it’s tourism industry is no stranger to accolades. In May 2014 TripAdvisor awarded 156 Awards of Excellence to tour operators, hotels and restaurants.
In December 2014 the islands won Caribbean Destination of the Year from CaribJournal in their inaugural Caribbean Travel Awards. According to the website, the designation was earned through a variety of factors such as “the efforts of its tourism sector” and “simply good marketing work”.
Tourism is just one sector of the Cayman Islands that is walking away with notable awards. The financial services sector, which is responsible for 67% of the country’s GDP, has been referred to as the top international banking centre, the world’s leading domicile for offshore hedge funds, the second largest captive insurance centre and a world leader in structured finance. The Cayman Islands stands as the only offshore international financial centre to possess such breadth and depth in financial services. In fact at the 2015 Hedgeweek Global Awards in London the Cayman Islands was named best hedge fund services jurisdiction. Hedgeweek is described as the largest online news publisher serving the investment and wealth managers market.
